Renewable resources applications

The space instruments that can be used for renewable resources management (natural or cultivated), must possess special characteristics, like special spectral bands for optical sensor or specific frequencies for the radar.

In the case of agricultural areas, a frequent acquisition capability (daily observations) and a large spatial cover, enabling to exhaustively observe large surfaces, are also needed. The ORFEO system can only partially satisfy these requirements, except on some sites of limited size (wine-growing or arboricultural areas).

Forest inventories or production management, which need metric resolution such as those brought nowaday by aerial photography, enter in the ORFEO application field. Moreover, ORFEO high resolution stereoscopic observation capabilities should enable a better characterization of the three-dimentional properties of forest covers.
