Hydrology applications

Outside extreme phenomena such as floodings and river swellings, the characterization of surface flowing requires a knowledge of the topography and of the slopes of basins, as well as the geometrical and functional characterisation of the surface (soils type, roughness, land use).

Moreover, the identification of hydrological objects controling surface flowing, and specially linear networks (channels, embankments, ditchs) should enable to develop modelisations taking into account spatial discontinuity influencing flowings.

The description of these surface properties can be improved by the use of optical and radar images with a high spatial resolution as ORFEO, which stereoscopic observation capabilities should improve the quality of the derived products.
